Qualifying a Romanian B2B partner: decision framework — B2B development

A useful introduction checks commercial fit and execution capacity, rather than merely the company’s existence.

What to understand about the project

Ask who the partner actually sells to, who makes visits, which ranges it represents, what resources are available and how opportunities are followed. A promised network without verifiable examples remains an assumption.

How to take action

Base the first conversation on a concrete case. Ask about the approach, constraints and starting conditions. Cross-check relevant information and prepare a small test understood by both parties.

Point to watch

Financial checks, regulatory controls and contractual safeguards need resources proportionate to the stakes. One sales interview cannot replace them.

Checklist

  • Check portfolio and territory.
  • Meet the operational contact.
  • Validate resources.
  • Agree the pilot.
  • Track actions.

Romanian partner: what BRIS and VIES can check

Partner checks should distinguish legal identity, VAT status and commercial capacity. Each answers a different question and cannot replace the others.

Identify the exact company

Request the full legal name, relevant identifiers and registered address. Compare them with the quote, invoice and contact. Similar trading names or imprecise translations can lead to checking the wrong company.

Retain the register date and result

When using BRIS, retain the date, parameters and actual document obtained. Check result scope and country-specific information. Clarify missing results before drawing conclusions about the company.

Distinguish identity from VAT status

VIES checks VAT within its scope. Retain country, number and dated response. Do not present this as evidence of solvency, quality, stock or signing authority.

Add useful commercial evidence

Add a detailed offering, shareable references, delivery terms, an authorised contact and follow-up conditions. For high stakes, arrange appropriate financial and contractual checks rather than relying on one identifier.

Is a valid VAT number enough to select a partner?

No. It does not demonstrate solvency, delivery capacity or commercial quality.

checking Romanian partner identity through BRIS and VIES

Search the legal name and compare identifiers, registered office and representatives with received documents. Check VAT separately in VIES and retain the date. Also verify the contact, payment account, relevant references and signing powers. Any inconsistency should suspend commitment until documented clarification.
